Southern Co. subsidiary Southern Power has acquired the 20 MW Adobe Solar Facility, located in Kern County, Calif., in partnership with Turner Renewable Energy.

According to Southern Co., the acquisition is expected to close once construction of the solar photovoltaic installation is complete, which is anticipated to occur in spring 2014.

Southern Co. says the Adobe Solar Facility will be built, operated and maintained by SunEdison, a manufacturer and provider of solar technology. Construction of the project began this fall.

Electricity generated by the plant will serve a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison, Southern Co. notes.
