Ontario-based municipal electric utility PowerStream is performing a two-stage trial of automated system restoration technology that is designed to trip the feeder breaker following a feeder fault.
The utility is using Survalent Technology's SCADA software system in concert with existing automated switches on its distribution system, which comprises twenty 27.6 kV feeders connected to two transformer stations. The self-healing grid project is aimed at reducing outage durations - by up to 15 minutes - for customers, the companies say.
