Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. has recently energized its new Arlen Transformer Station, which was designed and built to provide power to Guelph, Ontario.

According to the utility, the 115 kV station features smart grid functionality and the latest in transformer, switchgear and protection equipment technology.

Guelph Hydro dedicated the new transformer station to the memory of Joseph Arlen, chief engineer and general manager of the utility from 1967 to 1987, at an inauguration ceremony Thursday.
