A123 Energy Solutions, recently branded by A123 Systems LLC, has announced the commissioning of its Long Duration (LD) Grid Storage solution in Hawaii for Maui Electric Co. (MECO).

Installed at an existing MECO substation, the 1 MWh energy storage system is a key component of the Maui Smart Grid Project and will provide peak-load shifting, voltage regulation, reactive power support and wind curtailment relief, according to A123 Energy Solutions.
